I tried to like them, I really did.
I put a lot of effort into make them tasty.
It didn't work.
The rest of the dinner was amazing, though, and I did manage to eat every last thing on my plate (nasty beets included.)

I have amended my resolution. I will no longer force myself to like beets but I will attempt to eat beets once a month for one year. Give me strength.
*whispers* I don't like beet either...
ReplyDeleteYou are a stronger woman than I ... I cannot stand beets. And if you ever catch me committing to eating them monthly for a year, commit me to the asylum. Fast!
ReplyDeleteThe only time I ever eat beats is when they are pickled. Otherwise, yuck. So good luck with eating them twelve times this year.
ReplyDeleteI'm really, really sorry but EW! EW! EW!
ReplyDeleteYou are a brave, brave woman.
wow, once a month!? that's impressive for something you hate. you are a stronger woman than i.
ReplyDeleteYou are a brave, brave soul.
ReplyDeleteI like pickled beets, but have never tried to eat them otherwise. Why the fixation on the beets, lady? If they are gross, don't eat the suckers.
ReplyDeleteLife's too short to eat stuff you don't like! There's so much other good food in the world! I detest brussels sprouts and haven't eaten one since probably 1996 when I moved out for college.
ReplyDeleteNo need for beets!
Every year I retry everything I hate just once just to make sure. Last week I retried shrimp. Still disgusting.
ReplyDeleteBut I love beets. I have weird questions: did you remove the skin and did you cook them till they were soft. Really soft, like you could stab them with a skewer with almost no resistance?
Also I would recommend cooking them individually wrapped in foil at 400 degrees for at least 1 hour.
Then remove their skins with paper towels and serve with salt & pepper, and olive oil.
How did you cook them? I do like beets... but they do have a very unique taste. :-)
ReplyDeleteSeriously, try golden beets. I don't like the red ones, but my husband and I LOVE golden beets. The taste is much more mild and less offensive :)
ReplyDeleteP.S. If you try beets again, slice them into many slices before you cook them, instead of after. That allows the oil/salt/pepper goodness to roast into each piece.
ReplyDeleteI'm not much for beets either but everything else looks fantastic!
ReplyDelete:(
ReplyDeleteAt least you tried. And make them very pretty.
By the end of the year, you probably will like beets.
ReplyDeleteI haven't had them in years...
Oh, I am a fan of the noble beet! Once I made borscht but, unfortunately, did not understand the concept of scaling down a recipe and made enough to feed the Gulag. I was having a cup of borscht with every meal for a month!!
ReplyDeleteDON'T DO IT. Walk away from the beets...
ReplyDeleteI agree, what's the deal with the beets? If you hate them, why eat them in the first place? Even if you make them for the lover, it doesn't mean you have to eat them yourself!
ReplyDeleteI really do love beets. But they can be a bit disasterous when you don't really, really cook them. Actually, I'm about to make myself a refreshing glass of carrot apple beet juice right now. The real fun comes two days later, when you poop red...
ReplyDeleteThat was perhaps too much info.
I love beets! i can my own!!
ReplyDeleteI <3 beets! Pickled in a salad? Delish.
ReplyDeletehave fun with THAT. i can't bring myself to eat and enjoy something that smells like dirt.
ReplyDeleteBeets taste like dirt and they stain everything they touch.
ReplyDeleteI saw them on 30 Minute Meals and they looked so yummy, all roasted and oven-y. So I bought some and made them Rachel Ray style.
And they still tasted like dirt. Blech.
I love beets when they're pickled, because I am Ukrainian - but I've never had them any other way, I think from this post I might avoid that experience for a little while longer.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
this is one of my favorite veggies and i love now that i can find beets being added to menus all over the place.
ReplyDeleteone of my favorites is this beet and goat cheese salad by my house. yuuuum
That looks like my kind of dinner! I've always liked beets, but I've never tried to make them like you did, so maybe I only like canned beets? I know, the horrors!
