My resolution for January was to have a no spendy month. It was successful-ish. I didn't buy any clothes or gadgets but I did buy four cds (though I did use gift certificates and felt guilty.) I say successful-ish because I managed to stretch the definition of "necessity" to suit my needs. A morning latte went from being a treat to being a necessity and it didn't break the rules of no spendy January. A night out with friends that included multiple pitchers of yummy cocktails was deemed necessary because of a nightmare week at work. I'm not disappointed in myself, though. I didn't buy clothes or puppy raincoats or delicious boots or any of the other things I was tempted by, which meant that when Ben's boobies, and Love Harder, and Canada for Haiti came along I had a few extra dollars in my pocket to donate. So no, my bank account is no better off now than it was at the beginning of the month but I'm still deeming January's resolution a win.
My resolution for February is to use my camera daily. Lately I've been in a photo rut. I take pictures of the pups but not much else. My plan for February is to get out and about with my camera. I might not post an Olympic-themed photo every day but I am going to try to focus on taking photos of the city I love.
I snapped this in Stanley Park. The Olympic rings are floating on a barge with Vancouver in the background. The coloured sails on the right are Canada Place and the orangish glow on the left is the port.

And I SO appreciate the donation yo. Full recap and pictures to follow.
ReplyDeletei've instated a late-breaking resolution for myself: i'm going to donate to a different charity each month. january was red cross for haiti, this month is going to be planned parenthood because some wacko group is going to be targeting abortion clinics through the US in feb/mar to protest in front of them for 40 days straight.
ReplyDeletewill you be posting the photos? i'd love to see pics of vancouver!
Ah, I love this city. Can't wait to see more pictures :)
ReplyDeleteHave you seen this (http://sh1ft.org/projects/index.php/2010/02/26-things-february-2010/)? It might be just in line with your February goal.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! I'm looking forward to getting some good photos this month too. :)
ReplyDeleteI guarantee you did better on your no-spendy-ness than I did on my no-drinky-ness. ;-)
ReplyDeleteOh it's so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGetting less spendy is tough but awesome if you can swing it. While I'm vegan this month (still scary to say it!) we're not going to eat out for the month as a way to save big money =)
I hope we survive and I don't end up living on salad!
Every year I make that same resolution, and every year I fail miserably. Here's hoping you're more successful than I am!
ReplyDeleteI love that picture. It's so stunning and pretty - night and water shots are my favorite.
ReplyDeleteYou could always do Project 365 - I know that it's more than just February, but it is really cool (especially if you stick with it).
Vancouver is one of the only cities J can work in (other than LA and London) and a lot of jobs in his industry are moving to Canada. Someday I may end up there, so I'm looking forward to these pictures.
ReplyDeleteGood for you!! I'm working hard on budgeting too and it's really tough, I know - I'm totally excited to see your photos, though. That one's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOoo. Me too. Apparently, if it doesn't solely exist in my house and on my couch (and call itself one of my dogs) I have not attempted a photo of it. LOL. So same boat.
ReplyDeleteI kinda want to start a Flickr group, like.. not a full 365 because good lord, I'd epic fail. But maybe a 104? LOL. For newbs, so I don't get so crushed when someone awesome posts their professional fantastic-ness and stomps my dreams. ;-)
That photo makes me miss living in the city :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a GREAT resolution. I should do the same because with me being at work I'm kind of in a rut, too. Though California photos were fun. :)
ReplyDeleteAh I love our city. And that photo. And that this post reminded me to dust my camera off and capture the city during Olympics, especially. Thanks for that!
ReplyDeleteI think you definitely win for January. And your February resolution is going to be fun for all of us.
ReplyDeleteoh that is so pretty, love that pic.
ReplyDeleteI've been in a photo rut myself. I think it has something to do with it being winter and unable to leave my apartment on the weekends because it decides to snow a shit ton. Can you tell I'm already sick of the snow (because they don't know how to clear it out here!!)?
ReplyDeleteI love, love your pictures by the way!
