He Said That You're Just As Boring As Everyone Else Nothing Ever Happens

I'm feeling quite faffy today so this post is going to be Friday Faff: Tuesday Edition.

First of all, there is some moosetash business to take care of. Random.org picked number 8 as the winner of the moosetash keychain, so ... Alice! I will mail the keychain to you this week. Thanks for playing!

There is only one month left until the opening ceremonies of the Winter Olympics. I'm not a fan of the Olympics being in Vancouver but I have to admit that I'm getting excited. Vancouver is a dreary place to be in February; my hope is that the energy and spirit of the Olympics makes this year's February fly by. That being said, I'm definitely not looking forward to the gongshow that my commute will be during the Olympics. I predict a lot of stabbiness.

Are any of you planning to come to Vancouver for the Olympics? What about the Vancouverites: are you going to any of the events? I'm not planning to - is that lame? I can't handle the hoards of people.

Vegas. Are you going? I'm not but I desperately wish I was. I'm spending a week in Vegas in September for Cat's wedding and I don't think I can swing two Vegas trips in one year. The irresponsible part of me really wants to be persuaded to make it work, though.

Two weeks post-surgery my eyes are feeling pretty good. My vision is great and continues to improve (my night vision was so rotten last week that I couldn't drive.) I need to update my driver's licence this week to remove my corrective lenses restriction and I'm really hoping I get a new photo. I look like a criminal in my current driver's licence photo. Are you allowed to smile in your driver's licence photo? It used to be allowed in BC but now there is a strict no smiling rule.

Sorry dudes, that's all I've got. The January blues are zapping my ability to be interesting.

  1. *Congrats to Alice!
    * Going is a possibility ( I may win tixs from work) but the thought of Vancouver during the Olympics (traffic/hotels etc) is making my anxiety twinge already. But it would be cool to go.
*Vegas....starting to seriously contemplate it, as should you. If all else it could be "research" for the wedding ;)

  2. You can't smile anymore? That SUCKS. I have to renew mine next week (It's my birthday!) and I HATE my current photo. BOO, BC.

  3. You just made me all kinds of sad.

  4. Love that Alice, so happy she won!

I opted not to go to hear the Obama speech the night he won the election, even though I live a few miles away. Worst decision I ever made. I missed being a part of history. It wasn't the same watching it on TV. It's something I regret. Take that to heart when considering whether to participate in the Vancouver Games. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity you might be passing by.

I will not be attending Vegas. I'm happy to share my thoughts offline, but in a nutshell, any group of that size annoys the shit out of me. I'd wind up being stabby for the whole trip. =)

  5. I can't believe that you can't smile in your picture - that's so strange! We can smile in GA. But I know you can't smile in your German passport pictures.

The Vegas trip would be really cool, but seems like it could be expensive too. Boo for not being a millionaire!

  6. I will trade you criminal photo for my DL photo taken while 9.5 months pregnant. Deal?

When it came in the mail, my husband looked at it and said "I can't believe they let you put 119 in the weight spot."

Vegas? I am too not-cool and parental for Vegas this year. Sadly.

  7. I'll be up for the Olympics, couch surfing at my parent's out in the sticks.

I'm beginning to worry that all the fun that I'd thought this would be will be devoured in massive crowds, obscene border waits, and awkward transportation.

Hopefully you guys will have enough beer up there. I may need extra.

  8. Yes, I'm going to the Olympics. I just posted about it earlier today, funnily enough. :) I have tickets to 4 events, and am really excited. I am dreading transit/traffic though. I'm sure it's going to be pure insanity. However, it is a once in a lifetime event, so I'm going to make the most of it!

This is the first I've heard of that Vegas gathering, so no, I'm not going. Sounds fun, though! I loved the long weekend I spent there in October. :)

This year I have to renew my drivers license and my USA passport. Ugh. I hate the photographs for those sorts of things.

  9. Not going to any of the athletic events, but we may take a trip up there just to "feel the energy" or whatever it is people do in a big city during the Olympics. We shall see...I have a feeling Seattle will be pretty busy during that time, too, so I might be able to feel the energy from my couch.

  10. I'm excited for the Olympics, but just for the curling. I watched them in 2006 and I LOVED it. It's like bocce on ice!

I'm with you though that things get too crazy. I don't like crowds either, and wouldn't be going to any events. Boo people.

  11. i say you can come to vegas twice and just crash on someone's floor and just drink yard drinks the whole time to save yourself some money, it's an excellent plan really :)

  12. i am anxious at the amount of people who will be taking over our city. mostly cause traffic by my home will be insane and i will probably have to wlk home from work instead of being picked up...

vegas = awesome. i cannot wait.

  13. My license has a "I know something you don't know" smile. I was trying to channel the Mona Lisa.

  14. Er...Olympics...Yeah, not so much. Not a big fan, and honestly, the only good it's doing my community is the fact the highway is a million times better. It's bus traffic only from Alice Lake to Whistler from 6 am to 6 pm, unless you have a pass, which means that it's not very likely we'll be having anyone stopping in to shop or anything. We've still got empty rental units (for half the price of Van or Whistler) and traffic is going to be shitty for us locals. The homeless people in Whistler are being given bus tickets to Squamish (granted, we DO have the only emergency shelter), and I can't actually afford to go to any events.

  15. I'm going to Bronze medal women's curling and I'm quite stoked. T on the other hand is less than impressed about his commute into Van. I'm trying not to let the people/crowds stress me out. We'll see how it goes.

  16. I actually work for VANOC, which is kind of hilarious considering my main opinion about the Olympics prior to snagging that job was a general pissy attitude about how it would affect my commute. But now? I really can't help but be completely jazzed about it, I mean I'm helping organize a small part of it!! I will get to attend the dress rehearsal of the Opening Ceremonies, and I got a guided tour of the Athlete's Village yesterday, but during the Games themselves? I will be hanging out at one of the vehicle compounds 10 hours a day, 6 days a week. I am oddly stoked about this. The volunteers (who are SO EXCITED to be part of the Olympics) that I am working with are what make it fun.

  17. I very much can't afford to go to Vegas this year either, but even if I could I'd probably be far too intimidated by all the amazing people everywhere I'd retreat into a little shell!!

And nope last time I got my pic taken I didn't even smile, but just had a teensy bit of teeth showing and they YELLED at me and had to retake it so I looked like a criminal!

  18. I am surprised how long it took your eyes to heal I was driving the next day! Then again I was so blind anything was an improvement!

  19. I always smile in driver's license photos. Otherwise they look like mugshots. I probably shant be going to Vegas, unfortunately.

  20. I would totally drag (hahaha, I typed drug first!) myself to Vegas if you were coming. I'm not the hugest Vegas fan, but it's cheap to get there, and warm weather=awesome.

I would totally see an Olympic event if it was in my town. The border crossing (and no place to say) makes me not want to go.

  21. Good luck contending with the olympics! I don't envy you at all! =(

  22. I am not looking forward to the Olympics at all, and am not planning on going to any events. I am not looking forward to my daily skytrain rides to and from work. Good luck, miss!
