You Got A Fast Car But Is It Fast Enough So We Can Fly Away

He tells me he's lucky; the piece of metal that flew off the truck hit the vehicle in front of him first, shredding the tyre and sending it flying into the bridge wall.

He says it's a good thing that he was paying attention; if he had not swerved, the metal might have come through the windshield instead of glancing off the side of the car.

He wonders what would have happened if he had been riding his motorcycle instead of driving the car.

I explain that we have to stop talking about it or I will never sleep again. And then I don't sleep.

  1. I was totally thinking that yesterday, but chose to keep quiet! I'm so glad he's okay.

Let's try a positive spin - motorcycles are way narrower than cars, so it probably would have missed him entirely :)

  4. Scary. I'm glad he's okay. I had one of those moments a few years ago. I was driving along the highway passing an area where they were doing construction in the median area. It was one of the first warm-ish days of spring, and I had my driver's side window rolled down a few inches for a breath of fresh air. A rock or piece of construction debris or something flew right at my driver's side window and hit it HARD at the very top of the window, cracking it and making such a loud sound that I had to pull over and collect myself before I was fit to continue driving. If it had been a fraction of a centimetre higher in the air, it would have been my brain that it collided with instead of the window, and I don't even want to think about what the result of that would have been.

But because that wasn't the result, and instead I was fine and so was my car after a brief visit to a glass repair shop, I moved on and almost forgot about it. I guess it's the butterfly effect; if something had happened ever-so-slightly differently, the result could have been drastically different. But it wasn't. And thank God for that.

  6. I was thinking about the motorcycle as well but there seemed no reason to add to your upset, hunny bunny.

Thank goodness he was in a car, and thank goodness he swerved.

  7. Yikes! I'm so glad this happened when it did, and I'm with you on the whole never talking about it in regard to the motorcycle thing. In a big way.

  8. Is ICBC going to cover it? Did the other driver realize what had happened?

  9. Also, I'm super glad that he's ok, and let's pretend he doesn't ever take the bike out on the road, ok?

  13. Oh man, that is so scary. I'm glad to hear that he is safe and sound. Good thing he has cat-like reflexes!

  14. see, he PROBABLY avoided it because he's a ninja. and he'd still have been a ninja on the bike, so really there's no need to worry, because hello, NINJA.

  15. That's one helluva nasty tear. You know, sometimes things like this happen to make us more grateful that more doesn't go wrong in our lives. Your husband and you are lucky - and his quick reaction time has a little something to do with it.

  16. Things like this don't make me feel better about my Sean wanting to get a motorcycle! Glad Shawn is ok and it was just your car getting the shaft! And I hope your insurance will fix everything!

  17. Loooveee the Tracy Chapman reference. I dig her in a strangely large way.

Anyhow, I'm glad Shawn is okay. You can easily fix cars. You can less easily fix faces.
