We Were Wasted And Happy We Were Laughing In The Sunshine

A little sunshine to balance out my lightning:

I just finished reading The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein. I was crying by page eight but the tone lightened after the first chapter and I really enjoyed the story. The story isn't light but it's a light read, if that makes sense. Without giving too much away, the story is told from the point of view of an old dog and the first chapter is about him trying to convey to his master that he wants to be put down. Sad, yes, but still a good summer read.

Stella will do anything for food. She's half beagle and half pug - two breeds known for their voracious appetites. Shawn cannot resist her charms, though I can't really blame him when she pulls stuff like this:

"Please may I have some peanut butter and toast?"

She makes me smile. Constantly.

"LADY! I do not think you realize how badly I need some of that white cheddar popcorn!"

Wolf Parade, Stars, The Black Keys, Hannah Georgas, and She & Him are providing me with an awesome summer soundtrack. I've been doing a lot of car-dancing is what I'm saying.

It's Thursday! Which means that tomorrow is Friday! Which means that it's almost the weekend! My weekend will be spent studying (grumble grumble grumble) but I also have plans to drive out to the berry farms in search of local raspberries and blueberries. Local berries make my heart happy. Smitten Kitchen featured a raspberry recipe this week that I'm planning to make for a gluten-free dinner we're having next week. It would be irresponsible of me to not test the recipe this weekend, right? Basically my life is seriously lacking in raspberry brown sugar gratin and I need to rectify the situation immediately.

Alright, who has some sunshine to share? Or lightning bolts - we are equal opportunity here at two L's. Ready? And go!

  1. Everlasting Light on The Black Keys' latest album rocks my soul.

  2. I absolutely love how dogs communicate. That's why I'd probably love that book and find your dogs so terribly adorable.

It's Thursday, which means it's almost Friday, which means we have a crazy weekend in front of us (girls night, a photo shoot with my niece, street fest to listen to bands, a birthday celebration and a baseball game!). And then next week? Come Wednesday after work, Sweets and I will officially be on vacation. Hell yeah!!!

  3. I'm going to Northern BC for the first time in 8 years next week for a wedding! So excited to see old friends and beautiful mountains! WEEEEEEEE!

  4. Oh, Stella is the cutest! Thank goodness for doggels! Silly lil beggar dogs! Abbie pup is just like that. Too hilarious.

"The Art of Racing in the Rain" sounds really good. I know we talked about it a bit on twitter -- thanks for the full review!

Sunshine:I'm also excited for Friday and the weekend just because! Woo! And I bought a facial online yesterday! Fun fun. And I have pasta leftovers for lunch. And maybe I'll watch "Crazy Heart" tonight.

  5. Oh, that is such an amazing book!! But I agree with the tearing up, I was doing it too...

  6. I definitely have to read that book! Also: that dog is omg adorable. Seriously.

  7. sunshine: ryan is coming home for the weekend; ipad is addictive (what apps do you love and reccommend?);
lightening: friday should be here now

  8. see, at least stella looks all sweet. darnielle the guinea pig just figured out that it's blueberry season, and now no one can open the fridge without getting yelled at: "Blueberry! Now!"

  9. Nicole: The whole album makes me so happy. They are talented mofos!

    Nilsa: Enjoy your vacation!

    Meg: Have fun!

Sarah Marie P: Yes! Pasta leftovers! I am having pasta leftovers for dinner tonight.

Tyler: The first chapter killed me.

Jessica Maria: It's how she gets away with murder - she looks at me with her big puppy eyes and I'm done.

    K-Tee: Plants vs Zombies!

T: Blueberry! Now! I have none.

  10. I just didn't feel like I could read the book, good as so many people have said it is.

Dogs are like that! Fortunately, she seems like she's very active and so you don't have a fat pug/beag.

Sunshine - I have a couple pieces of work work to do tomorrow, but other than that, my weekend with my boy has already begun! Yippee!

  11. I'll believe in anything - wolf parade is one of my favourite songs of all time. I'm new to Black Keys but I love them. No surprise as I'm a huge white stripes fan.

My lightning bolt for the day - T got laid off today. Sucky, crappy, no good day. Tomorrow might have more sunshine. My fingers are crossed.

  12. Oh that recipe looks amazing! I have two cartons of raspberries & I think I know what I'm doing with them... :)

  13. I will so be downloading those. Car dancing makes me happy and everything you've ever recommended/burned for me ALSO makes me happy.

I'm sitting in a cabin at Cannon Beach with the sunshine streaming in, about to head into Portland to pillage Powell's books and then meet a bunch of bloggers (Kerri, Vahid, Sarah, Amanda, etc.) for dinner. Yay!
