You Got To Burn To Shine

So. The laser eye surgery. I did it. Well, I didn't perform the surgery but I did lie there without crying and/or screaming. It was ... successful? I guess? I don't know. I'm feeling very desperate today. My world is blurry and burny and all I want to do is itch my eyeballs but I can't. The nurse taught me more than I ever wanted to know about infection so I've been even more neurotic than usual about washing my hands and not touching my face.

I've been trying to read blogs but it's difficult to read my computer screen (it's taken me fifteen minutes to type this.) I attempted to finish my book (I'm 20 pages away from finishing a murder mystery and it is KILLING ME that I can't see the words on the page) but I failed. Daytime television is mind-numbingly dull. I'm very complainy. I'm sorry. I know that in a week I will be laughing at how wimpy I'm being right now.

Things aren't all bad. Shawn is being a giant sweetheart. I ate ice cream for breakfast. My puppies know something is wrong so they're being less jumpy and more cuddley. Things are okay. They will be better later but for now they're okay.

  1. Oooh that sounds painful! I'm really short sighted and its always tempted me (particularly as I am sitting here nursing a sore eye irritated by a contact lens right now) but I'm a bit scared about it. Hope you get your perfect vision soon! Nothing worse than not being able to finish a book!

  2. I only got glasses at 19 (25 now), so I still remember life without them...But I actually think I look better wearing glasses than not (they tend to help disguise the fucking ginorma-bags that are always under my eyes).
But, now I'm sort of curious about laser eye surgery. I mean, no way in hell I can afford it for AT LEAST a couple years, but it would be RAD to watch movies and such without having to wear my specs...

  4. Oh, Hills. I'm sorry it's such a rough day. I had a less-invasive kind and went shopping that afternoon. I KNOW.

I hope another day of rest makes a huge difference. xoxo

  5. If you're reading this, I guess that means you feel better, so there's no need for me to say "get seeing well soon!" But I will anyway.

  9. You're a stronger woman than me! I work in the industry and have seen my fair share of post-op patients and videos of the surgery and I cannot imagine actually doing it. (This coming from someone who has worn glasses since I was 5.)

Everyone who I've ever met has been wildly happy with the results. Enjoy your 20/20 vision! That'll be so nice to see clearly when you open your eyes in the morning and not have to put on corrective lenses!

  16. Oh no! I'm sorry that it's a hard recovery- I'm excited to hear about how your new peepers are working when you get through this next bit though!

    You're terribly brave <3

Ps - is it true you can smell the lasers burning your eyeballs? Just wondering.

  20. How come on all of those reality TV shows where they fix people's eyes, teeth, boobs, etc... they always come out of the lasik with perfect vision immediately?

    "OH I CAN SEE EVERRRYTHING!!!"

Tell me why that is, Hillary. Is TV *gasp* NOT REAL?
