Lift The Bad Weight Off Your Mullet And Let The Thoughts Fall Off Your Tongue

I am between stylists right now, which is probably a bad time for me to decide to do something drastic to my hair. I'm not a huge fan of rationality or logic though, so Saturday morning I went to the mall and got my hair cut. I know, right? The mall. I haven't had a mall haircut since ... I don't even know. Which is snobby. I mean, whose to say that you can't get a fabulous haircut at the mall? Maybe I would discover a hidden gem who gives amazing haircuts and only charges $30. Or maybe I would end up paying $50 for a mullet.

This is my hair before the mulletization.

And this is my mullet.

Not too mullety, right? However, it took about half an hour of intense styling with three different styling tools and many hair products to get it to look like this. Mullet camouflage is time consuming.

I asked for very little layering because my hair is fine and goes a bit wonky with layers. My "mall gem" interpreted this to mean that I wanted many layers. Many short layers. Many mullety layers. And I don't even know what to say about the bangs.

Let's just say I will be wearing a ponytail until the mullet grows out.

  1. I actually like it! I do think that some highlights would be a nice addition to add some depth to it.

  2. I like it lady, you know what? If you had the bottom brought up a little it wouldn't look mullety at all- I think it's just feeling that the bottom layer is too long that's making you feel like that.

And maybe I want us to be hair twins.
    Maybe. =p

(And it was a pet crematorium, not one for people lol I'm not sure which is worse)

  3. Shoes, girl, it looks cute! Give yourself a few days to get used to the layers. It will probably feel a lot less mullet-y to you then.

  4. Nothing left to do but buy an air-brushed tee shirt and a pair of denim short shorts until it grows out. Maybe you'll learn something you didn't know about yourself.

  5. I was considering a mullet myself. After seeing this? Not so much. Look on the bright side - your eyes are sparkling up a damn storm!

  6. I like it, it looks good in the picture. But can relate as I once went to a high end salon and was charged 80$ for a mullet with layers so short I could not wear a pony tail for 2 months of hell.

  7. Oh, no! I mean, I think it looks fine, but if I remember correctly you had a haircut last year that you hated too.

On the bright side, at least your bangs aren't feathered...

    ;)

  8. hee, it looks good to me but perhaps i should see a pre-intensly-styled view? ;-) also, i think kyla might be on to something, that maybe chopping another blunt inch or two off the bottom could look extra cute.. but i am a TERRIBLE PERSON to ask hair advice from, so mostly you should probably just ignore me.

  9. I think stylists are secretly required to give everyone mullets to drum up business during the down economy. From recent experience, it helps (slightly) to cut the shortest layer a little bit. Good luck! The bangs part is pretty cute.

  10. I too decided to get bangs a few months ago and sadly came to the conclusion that they only looked cute when I had the rest of my hair in a ponytail. (Can we see a picture of you with it back?)

Now I'm on to the very long process of growing them out. Boo.

  12. Hello Ms. Hillary MallCut

I have very strong feelings on this topic. I say to myself.... Hillary shouldnt worry so much about her haircut.... damn.... most women would die to look as good as Hillary does on her worst day.
So yea, dont worry so much, just be thankful you look as beautiful as you do.

  13. I got a mall haircut this weekend, too and blogged about it. :-)

The haircut was fine...the poor stylist snipped a couple things other than hair, though. Luckily none of those things were a part of me.

  15. I really don't think it's that bad. I would trim a little off the back so it doesn't seem as short in the front. Your natural color really makes your eyes stand out. I also have thin hair like you & for some reason hairdresses always think it's ok to cut a lot of bangs so then I get the super heavy bangs & really thin hair look. Needless to say I'm currently growing out some but not all bangs.

  16. I see no mullet. You just suffer from an overly mullet oriented imagination.
As do i. As do i.

  17. I don't think it looks mullety at all. Maybe try flipping the ends out instead of rolling them under. It'll give you a whole new style.

I feel bad that you always have negative hair experiences. Those really are no fun.

  18. I'm with Kyla- I think that could be fixed in a snip, at a regular stylist! It's not that bad at all- I like the bangs.
