Nobody Said It Was Easy No One Ever Said It Would Be So Hard

Friday Faff: I Just Realized That It's Not Friday Edition

Dudes. Dudes! Thank you all for being rockstars. When I get tangled up in my own head I tend to forget that I'm not the only person who feels this way. Anxiety can be so solitary, you know? Thanks for reminding me that we're all a bit crazy. I tried to respond to each comment but a few were "noreply-comment@blogger.com" so if you didn't get a reply from me: Thank you! You rock! Change your account settings so people can respond to your comments!

Chicago eliminated Nashville from the Stanley Cup playoffs this week so Vancouver and Chicago are headed for a round two match up. I'd like to be excited but I'm too stressed. The Canucks played the Hawks in round two last year and the result was devastating. I'm trying to get into the spirit this year but the harshest smacktalk I can muster is "watch out Chicago, we're so going to ... rematch you. We're going to rematch you so hard. You should just quit now because when we're through rematching you there will be nothing left." Weak, I know. I've been a Canucks fan for too long; I've grown to expect disappointment.

This morning I was listening to my iPod on shuffle when a song came on that I haven't listened to in years. It took my breath away. One minute I'm on the train trying not to stab the kid across from me who is playing a video game with the volume loud enough that I can hear it over my music (seriously, rush hour public transportation etiquette exists for a reason and if you refuse to abide by said etiquette, I reserve the right to stab you) and then all of a sudden I'm flooded by memories of my ex-boyfriend. Not good memories, either. Horrible, twisty memories of lying in his bed, listening to this song on repeat because he can't sleep without music playing softly, not sleeping because how can I sleep when our relationship (which at the time is my whole world (barf, I know)) is ending? This song represents a painful time in my life and I should probably just take it off my iPod completely but it really is a lovely song (The Scientist by Coldplay, in case anyone is wondering.) I'm always surprised when music affects me so deeply because usually scent is the sense that knocks me on my ass (whenever I smell the ex-boyfriend's cologne it's like a punch to the gut.)

I'm taking my iPod off shuffle is what I'm trying to say.

Shawn and I have decided to upgrade to a king-sized bed. Our tiny bedroom doesn't really have space for a king-sized bed but we're not wee people (he is 6'3" and I am 5'8") so we're going to try to make it work. We need to get rid of a dresser to make room for the bed so we're hoping to find a bed with drawers in the base. So far we've only been able to find queen-sized beds with storage underneath; does anyone know of a kind-sized bed with drawers? We're pretty specific in what we need so I'm worried that we won't be able to find anything that suits us. Our dream bed is king-sized, has drawers in the base, doesn't cost a lot of money, and is low to the ground so I don't hurt myself when I fall out of bed or sleepwalk. Someone please tell me that this bed exists.

  1. You can always buy under-bed storage if not. http://www.containerstore.com/shop/closet/underbedStorage and Ikea I bet would have some too!

And I am totally the same way with songs. There are some I just can't listen to any more because they're so tightly woven in with a time in my life I have no desire to revisit.

And I stand by what I said yesterday love. If ever you need an ear/pair of eyes... <3

  2. I'm gonna focus on the bed instead of hockey. Because if I jump on your bandwagon, my husband will be pissed. And if I rah-rah support Sweets, I'll permanently hurt my pretend friendship with you.

So, anyway, beds. Here are a few I found...

  3. Feeling crafty or want somewhere else to direct that anxious energy?

The plans for your new bed are here:

She makes the plans ridiculously easy to follow so that anyone can be a builder. It might be good for you to have a project to think about. (I have anxiety too and its nice to have something to keep my mind occupied.)

  4. I would check West Elm (off-shoot of Pottery Barn). I got my bed from there and it was affordable and it's super nice!

  5. We just upgraded to a king bed about 2 months ago, and it has literally changed our lives! With 2 cats that insist on sleeping on the bed too, the queen was just too small. We both sleep loads better in the king.

    We bought this frame:

Overstock's customer service is awesome (one piece came with a dent, and 3 days later the new piece was at our door). Although it doesn't meet your drawers criteria, it has plenty of room to put stuff under it. It's really pretty and we like it because it doesn't scream "giant massive bed" when you walk in the room.

  6. P.S. This one is super cheap and has drawers

  7. OH, I want a king size bed so bad. But alas, we barely got the queen size SPLIT box spring up our 105-year-old staircase. What - did people sleep in fucking drawers back then? I no understand.

Maybe IKEA would have what you need?

  8. We bought large basket-type drawers for under the boys' beds from IKEA...

  9. That entire ALBUM reminds me of my ex-boyfriend and the end of our relationship! I love the album, but still have a hard time listening to it without choking up.

Ikea definitely has affordable options for big beds and storage. Our bed is Ikea and my mum's bed is Ikea, and they seem to be a bit more sturdy than some of their other furniture (still love it all, though!)

  10. I have an Ikea low frame bed and I hate it. I have permanent bruises on my shins from walking into it all the time. I can't wait til I can buy a bed that I'm not going to be forever wounded by!

I stopped shuffling my iPod long ago for that precise reason. Also, you made me not want to get on any public transit ;)

  11. I'm gonna echo those above me & say IKEA. In fact I thought I saw one somewhere sometime? yeah, I know, pretty darn helpful aren't I.

Have faith! Canucks are on fyyrre. It'll be great hockey, I can't wait to see them battle it out and win against Chicago.

  12. Smell definitely does that to me. I almost closed my eyes and leaned back into a stranger at a street corner once because he smelled just like my ex-boyfriend. And then I remembered where I was. Thank goodness.

Nick had a king sized bed when I met him and it seemed so enormous (being all short and everything) but it's hard to sleep in a smaller bed with him.

  13. We're at a queen sized bed, but given the stretch factor of these damn long dogs? We should upgrade too.

  14. I (oddly enough) have similarly bad feelings associated with that same song. OX
